What we do
Educate
One of the goals of Oceanic Megafauna Awareness is to inspire students for the love of the oceans and to show them what they can do in their everyday lives to protect marine life. It is particularly important to us to provide lots of exciting facts about the animals so that their way of life can be better understood. We create an understanding of the role that each species plays in the marine ecosystem and what consequences it would have if certain species became extinct and why we must prevent this at all costs.
We look at how we humans are changing the animals’ habitat and the marine ecosystem and what effects this has on the wildlife in the ocean. It is important to us that we show ways and solutions and convince them that everyone can do something. One person alone cannot change the world, but if everyone does a little, we can do it together.
Inspire
Using the power of images and stories, we inspire people to be interested in oceanic megafauna. Particularly the motto “Protect What You Love” has grown to us because we are convinced that people are more willing to protect something if they know, understand and love it. We talk about how impressive and fascinating the underwater wildlife is and try to bring this unique habitat closer to our fellow human beings. Additionally, we share our personal experiences in the sea and our breathtaking encounters with oceanic megafauna with others through our impressive images.
To do this, we use our skills as underwater photographers and show those who don’t have the opportunity to have these experiences themselves what it really looks like under the surface. We tell exciting stories, not only our own, but also the storys of all those who fight for marine conservation around the world by reporting on their exciting everyday lives. In doing so, we want to open people’s eyes and create empathy for oceanic megafauna and thus sensitize them to the effects of our behavior.
Support Science, Marine Conservation and Ecotourism
We regularly support science and nature conservation programs, as well as ecotourism operators. We do this by accompanying their work and documenting everything photographically. Afterwards we report on it in various ways, including on social media and on our blog. Various other formats are planned for the future.
Our goal is to raise awareness of this valuable work, which contributes to the protection of marine areas and marine life.
The photos taken are used to promote the programs and operators and, if possible, benefit research. We also actively volunteer to better understand the work and to be able to report more authentically. Back home, we talk about these experiences in schools and at events to arouse people’s curiosity and to bring them closer to the work of marine conservationists.
